45 New Job Openings within Hockey - Monday January 20th 2025

Cool NAHL internship, Bauer Hockey, USA Hockey, and so many more new hockey jobs!

In partnership with

Happy Monday everyone,

I’ve got 45 cool new jobs to share with you all this week, and we’re getting back to including the Advice of the Week!

I also want to say thank you (again) to everyone who follows the brand on social media, as this past week I surpassed 20,000 followers on Working in Hockey’s Instagram account.

I was at the iconic Madison Square Garden for a Knicks game this weekend, and my buddy pointed out that MSG, the World’s Most Famous Arena, holds about 19,800 people for an NBA game… crazy to think we have already amassed a community big enough to fill up MSG. All that to say, thank you all for interacting and following along!

My Favourite Role of the Week

This week I want to focus on the Kim Cannon Internship that the North American Hockey League (NAHL) has opened up, in loving memory of Kim Cannon, and in cooperation with Jon Cooper, head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

To explain further detail on the internship, please review this paragraph below, which is straight from the NAHL website:
“Candidates for the Kim Cannon internship should be a recent college graduate, be able to relocate to the Dallas, Texas, area and represent the high ideals characterized by Kim. This is a 10-month internship that begins August 1, 2025 and ends on May 31, 2026, and a monthly stipend will be provided. The position places a strong emphasis on introducing the intern to all aspects of NAHL league operations and administration.”

Hockey has so many good people in it, and it’s inspiring to see a new opportunity created in honour of Kim, who was taken from the hockey community far too soon.

Advice of the Week

This week, I want to talk about networking and reaching out to people; specifically online. I am a big proponent of connecting with people online, whether that be Linkedin or Instagram or even via email - but there’s one thing that’s been driving me crazy lately, that I think is helpful advice that I was given early in my career.

If you reach out to someone, be specific, especially if you are asking something of them.

You should absolutely ask someone to hop on a call or go for coffee, but you need to tell them why or what you’re hoping to discuss. Saying “Hey Nick, I’d love to get on a call with you this week!” gives me (or the person you’re reaching out to) no context, no detail, and no reason for them to be inclined to take time out of their busy schedule to meet with you.

Instead, try something like, “Hey Nick, I saw you have been working within hockey for a few years, and as a fellow Sports Management grad, I would love to pick your brain for 15 minutes on how I can break into the industry!

This is specific, both in the ask and the time commitment, it gives common ground to open conversation with, it details what will be discussed, and it feels much more personable rather than transactional.
